Prosiect Sero Net Gwynedd

Prosiect Sero Net Gwynedd ran from March 2022 to February 2025. Click here to read three case studies that give an idea of the support we gave.
The ambitious project is a partnership between many organisation, ventures and businesses from all corners of Gwynedd, namely DEG, Cyd Ynni, Partneriaeth Ogwen, Yr Orsaf, MaesNi, YnNi Llŷn, Adra Housing Association, Grŵp Cynefin, and Grŵp Llandrillo Menai.
There are many strands to the project which all work towards decarbonising Gwynedd’s housing stock, creating local jobs in the green economy, and helping families across Gwynedd use energy in a more efficient way. These include establishing an innovative training hub for upskilling on new technology e.g installation of heat pumps, assessment of community buildings, and employing Community Energy Officers.
The part of the work that sits with DEG is the assessments of the community buildings, and employment of the energy officers. Several local people will be employed as energy officers, visiting homes in six areas of Gwynedd (Caernarfon, Pen Llŷn, Dyffryn Ogwen, Dyffryn Peris, Dyffryn Nantlle and Maesgeirchen, Bangor) to offer energy advice and ensure residents are on the correct energy tariffs.
The energy officers will be trained to offer advice about insulation, draught proofing, and how to use energy in a cost-efficient way so that residents spend less on energy bills. Our hope is that the project will encourage more and more people to become part of the ‘green economy’, and that our energy officers will become qualified to participate in some of our future projects.
Our aim with Prosiect Sero Net is to help Gwynedd on the march towards net zero, helping residents whether people are privately renting, living in social housing or an owner-occupier. As we head towards 2030, we will help as many people as possible to reduce their carbon emissions – but more importantly, we’ll be helping people with the costs associated with becoming carbon neutral.
The project originally received over £500,000 in Government funding, plus a further £195,000 in match funding from partners, with the money coming from Westminster’s UK Community Renewal Fund and Levelling Up Fund. Prosiect Sero Net Gwynedd has now received a further £300,000 from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. Read more here.
